Chris Drake, Managing Partner of Horton International UK, and Founder of Drake Darcy recently joined Candice Bourne on The Journey of a Search CEO podcast to discuss his career in executive search, building an entrepreneurial business, and the advantages of being part of a global executive search group.
Reflecting on his journey, Chris shared how joining Horton International has enabled Drake Darcy to retain the agility and personalised service of an independent boutique while benefiting from the collaboration, expertise and resources of a global organisation.
Chris highlighted how the collaborative environment supports clients with international search assignments, enabling firms to combine local market expertise with global reach to deliver the right solution for each client.
The conversation also explored the importance of building a business around clear values. Chris discussed his long-standing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as sustainability, explaining how these principles have become embedded within Drake Darcy’s culture and decision-making. From supporting diverse leadership appointments to contributing to environmental initiatives through its membership of 1% for the Planet, Chris emphasised that purpose and commercial success can go hand in hand.
Looking ahead, Chris described his ambition to continue building an entrepreneurial business that encourages curiosity, embraces new ideas and gives people the flexibility to succeed while maintaining a strong client focus.
When asked what advice he would offer aspiring business owners in executive search, Chris encouraged them to do their research, commit fully to their vision and remain open to learning from others. He also highlighted the importance of surrounding yourself with experienced mentors and maintaining the curiosity to continually adapt and improve.
